About the Band
Tall Grass Captains is the long-standing project of founder Mark Mattson, the creative force behind the band’s guitar work, vocals, and evocative songwriting. Rooted in years of collaboration, Mattson is joined by original drummer Craig Swafford, whose steady hand has anchored the group’s sound since day one.
The Captains have recently entered a bold new era. With the addition of guitarist Chad Wiggins, the band has pushed into expansive, psychedelic territory, while keyboardist and vocalist Lynn Batalden weaves in layers of nuanced melody and stylistic flair. Rounding out the lineup is bassist Anthony Del Fiacco, a kinetic force field of rhythm that keeps the band’s experimental energy driving forward.
Together, this five-piece crafts a sound that is as deeply personal as its origins and as vast as its new horizons.
